1 Hour Landscapes in Gouache

I love painting landscapes in gouache, but it hasn’t always been that way. I used to think that painting landscapes was something only other people could do. It seemed far to complicated and I probably couldn’t do it, so why bother?

But the idea of wanting to have a go just wouldn’t leave me alone, so I tried! And it wasn’t great.

But I was so darn happy that I had given it a go, I was buoyed up to continue! Over time and with lots of trial and error I developed the method that I now use to approach any landscape, no matter how complex, and that is what this guide is all about.

As well as the practical side of painting landscapes, the guide seeks to encourage you to break down other barriers that you may find are stopping you from having a go.

When I first decided I was going to write this guide, I started out with a set of goals for the book; things that I wanted it to be able to do, and what it wouldn’t. You can read the goals here.

This is not a book on painting photo-realistic landscapes. You will not be agonizing over tiny details and recreating picture-perfect landscapes. You will be bold and fast, curious and brave. You will make mistakes! But you will learn wonderful lessons from them
